Here Today – and Tomorrow

Operation Mobilisation celebrates its 50th year this week. Jack Taylor considers …..

We wish Operation Mobilisation (OM) a happy birthday as we praise God for the vision and wisdom He displays in reaching out to an aching world through this ship-borne ministry. There’s not much we can say beyond what Premiere this week posted:

A reflection ……

In another comment piece this month we reflect on Cadbury’s and where Cadbury may now be going. What’s the connection with OM, if any?

Cadbury’s this month has made a corporate decision to celebrate something warned against in Scripture, and egregiously to push this towards children. My earlier comment suggested there may be a corporate consequence to defiance of God’s stated and settled position.

A young lady at a church I used to attend was the Operations Manager for OM on the Doulos ship. At one port where the Doulos needed to berth, there was literally just one berth remaining. An entire mission depended on securing that one berth.

The quay owner/operator declined to make the berth available for no other reason than that its owner was an anti-Christian. He had no prior customer that needed/wanted the berth. It was sheer, wanton defiance of God and of His Gospel that motivated this individual. Apparently he said words to the effect, “that ship will berth on my quay over my dead body”! Needless to say this was a matter of urgent prayer at OM and amongst their supporters.

Can you guess what happened?

No, you cannot! The businessman did not die, but his company did! Overnight it went bankrupt and ceased to operate. It was immediately taken over by a new owner/operator, to whom the Doulos applied for a berth permit. This was granted the same day. As we said in our Cadbury’s comment piece, God indeed always wins. He has, if we may say so with due reverence, the last laugh.

Watch Cadbury with interest!
