Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:37-38

As one looks at the world today there is no question that there is a problem. Jesus saw the problem:

“But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. ‘ Matthew 9:36

What are we to pray for? The answer is clear and plain, labourers ! We need witnesses for Jesus! Many pray for the needs of the world, and I have no problem with this. Many pray for others to be changed or saved. Many pray for political and moral issues and get involved in these things.

But do you pray to the Lord for labourers? Do you pray for witnesses? Have you become a labourer in the harvest field of the world to bring people to Jesus, that they may know Him and follow Him?

The change we need in the world is not necessarily democracy, or moral or life issues, or even war issues . But it is the change of the heart brought about when one meets Jesus and comes to know Him in repentance and faith resulting in an entirely new birth and life through the Blood of Jesus.

Reform?

Reform is not the answer. Moral purity has never saved one soul. A nation with any political agenda will not save one soul from eternal hell and separation from God. Israel had the Ten Commandments carved in stone with the Finger of God yet they fell into sin and God allowed the Temple to be destroyed totally and completely. For a sin sick world there is only one cure, Jesus!

Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.”
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” . Matthew 9:35 and Mark 16:15

Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, “and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem”. Luke 24:46-47

Focus away

Everything Satan can do to put the focus on anything but Jesus and the message of Salvation and Redemption – he will do. We must be careful that in all the good, moral, political and social activity we can do that it does not distract from the cross and the shed Blood of Jesus for the saving of the lost. “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Luke 19:10

I see religious people fighting and getting involved in every issue on earth. They seem to have the time to carry signs and spend countless hours, days and years on ‘issues’ and not one of these ‘issues’ will save one soul. I ask ‘do these same people who care about all these ‘issues’ have the same concern for the lost condition of men and women’? Do they know that every person on earth is just one heartbeat from eternity and heaven or hell?

My dear friend, Jesus came to ‘seek and to save that which was lost’ and that is the souls of men and women. That is why Jesus went to the cross and shed His Holy Sinless Blood.

You may be labouring but is it on some side issue, or is your life and witness focused on Jesus and the lost world in need of redemption? In many of today’s churches, evangelism and personal witnessing takes a back seat to other things. I will not get specific but it is very evident.

How many today are in ‘full-time evangelism’? How many today are personal soul winners? The greatest change is the change of a heart that has come to ‘life’ in Jesus and is now ‘dead’ to the past and bondage of sin and death.

Many churches are mobilized for ‘issues’ but not for personal evangelism. So different from the intent of Jesus and what the church looked like on the day of Pentecost and the church in the Book of Acts and on throughout the New Testament. I grieve to see so many good people so misdirected. “He who wins souls is wise.” Proverbs 11:30

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” Isaiah 6:8

I pray that I will be faithful to the call and command of Jesus to be a living witness of Him to others. My passion is to fully follow Jesus and may He have mercy upon me for my failures and sins, often in neglect of what I have not done as well as for what I have done.

I want to be a witness for my Lord!
