Mankind thinks he’s got an answer …..

Sorting ourselves out

As Mankind seeks to secure His own future and destiny, in the absolute absence, and ignoring of, his Creator God (see Vox article below) do we see another aspect of Luke chapter 21 being fulfilled?

In Luke 21 (equivalent Matthew 24-5) Jesus gives his most detailed explanation of what our ultimate future holds. Fear and apprehension of the future will be a marker of the end-time. In Luke 21: 25-6 sets the tone on this: “There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terrorapprehensive of what is coming on the world”. Can we ‘long-term’ ourselves out of these quandaries?

Today one of Mankind’s popular fears is that a huge asteroid will impact Earth and ………….. we shall all be wiped out. If we are not first wiped-out by a ‘pandemic’, or a nuclear war, or by ‘climate change’. In fact the list of wiper-outers seems to be growing all the time, at least in people’s imaginations. So Vox (above) argues we should plan and engineer our futures. As if we could!

Effective Alturism (EA) might be mixed with Artificial Intelligence (AI). But first you have to decide whether you are we ‘weak longtermist’ or ‘strong longtermist’ or even ‘galaxy-brain longtermist’? You need to decide where you stand, folks! Just which side are you on? Didn’t Jesus say we are not to worry? Let’s remind ourselves:

Do Not Worry

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you-you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own”. (Matthew 6:25-34).

A long term plan that works

But Jesus has a much better idea. Eternal life is the free gift of God. There is inevitably for each person an immortality – eternal life or eternal death (separation from Creator God). On being born again we become partakers of that life with God. God is eternal, He is the great I AM who was, and is, and is to come. Interested readers can explore more of this here:
