Peter Sammons explores the egg freezing epidemic.

WRONG QUESTION, WRONG ANSWER!

I find this article from UK’s “Daily Telegraph” rather sad, if not downright depressing. How many women are there who want to ‘have their cake and eat it’ as regards childbearing? How many will be cruelly disappointed, only to ‘wake up’ to deception when it is far too late? https://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/katie-investigates/34-single-paid-55k-have-eggs-frozen-disappointed-result/ This Telegraph article surely illustrates asking the wrong question and consequently finding the wrong answer.

GOD’s PERFECT DESIGN

God’s design for men and women is: they leave their parents and cleave together [Genesis Genesis 2:24, affirmed specifically by Jesus, Matthew 19: 5-6 ]. Leaving and cleaving has been the pattern for thousands of years. But not today, it seems. If there is a Western pattern today it is:

1 Leave

2 Pursue an ‘education’ at tertiary level that almost inevitably pressures towards sexual compromise, pressures, promiscuity, impurity and sadness

3 Begin a career

4 Shack up

5 Split up

6 Shack up [ * N ] [ sometimes called, serial monogamy ]

7 More earnestly seek Mr right (or Miss right, as the case may be)

8 Begin to panic

9 Freeze eggs (for women)

10 Join dating websites

11 Marry recent divorcee

12 Cleave [ if you’re lucky ]

And if you’re unlucky, it may be ‘return to stage 4’ …….

How sad, when God has a perfect plan in place – His one flesh ordinance. A perfect design and one that so many have been thoroughly blessed by, down through history.

POSTPONING THE FUTURE

We can, to a certain extent, understand young people’s reluctance to commit amid today’s divorce epidemic. Yet the popular common practice of serial monogamy seems to be the cause of, and not the answer to, so much later conflict and heartache. Unavoidably, young people must take responsibility for the choices they make. When we choose to work outside of God’s perfect plan (and perfect ordinance) we will only suffer.

Freezing eggs and ‘postponing the future’ is not the answer. Marrying wisely at a younger age just might be ………….
